Jan 8, 2021

Local TD and Minister for the Office of Public Works, Patrick O’Donovan has announced funding of €580,000 for projects in the constituency of Limerick County under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme. Allocations are being made under the scheme for a variety of different initiatives across the County including investments in amenities, car parking and information technology.

“ I am delighted to see funding being allocated to the communities of Doon, Croom, Feenagh, Rathkeale and Glin in the constituency of Limerick County and Caherconlish is also receiving funding in the Limerick City Constituency.”

In total Limerick is to receive €680,000 with €580,000 going to the County Constituency broken down to; Doon €89,550 for the development of an eHub, Croom €100,000 for improvements to car parking in the town, Feenagh €100,000 for the development of a new park in the village, Rathkeale €200,000 for works at the old railway station in the town which will form part of the Great Southern Greenway and Glin €90,351 for interpretive equipment and improvements in the town.

“This is the latest round of funding under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme. Minister Heather Humphreys, who I work very closely with in my role in the OPW, had made the allocations, and these towns and villages are the latest set of communities across Co. Limerick that are benefitting from the scheme.”

“Since it was introduced I have worked with communities across the County to get the maximum amounts for the County, and I have found that the most important part of any of the applications is the collaboration and working with the Council. In these cases I know that having met the Council several times on most of these projects, that they are very good projects and will make, like others have, a big difference to our towns and villages.”

“As a local Minister, I have made investment in our rural communities a key priority for the last number of years, and I am glad to say that it is working. Sports Capital, Rural Regeneration, Clár, Town and Village and LEADER are all schemes that are open to our towns and villages to look at, to see by working with the Council how we get money into local areas, to improve the quality of life for people there. I am glad to say that the schemes are working and that Limerick is doing very well from the money available.”

Patrick O’Donovan concluded by saying that he will work with any community group or organisation that have an idea as to how to improve their area, and while there are no guarantees he is committed to continuing to work within Government to get the maximum amount possible for Co. Limerick.
