Limerick TD and Minister, Patrick O’Donovan has welcomed the news that the Government has opened the Sports Capital Programme for applications. A total of €40million has been provided by the Government for the 2018 round of grants. Patrick O’Donovan, who opened the last round of Sports Capital, said the announcement would be warmly welcomed by sports clubs and organisations across Co. Limerick.
“Our sports clubs are the backbone of communities across Limerick. I know from dealing with so many of them all over the county, of the immense voluntary effort that they put in, year in, year out to keeping these vital amenities in a condition that they can be enjoyed by locals and visitors alike people in the area. Over the last number of years we have made great progress in improving the facilities available for participants and spectators, however there is more that needs to be done. That’s why the opening of this scheme is so important.”
The last round of Sports Capital grants, which were opened by Patrick O’Donovan, saw €1,680,129 invested by the Government in 58 clubs and organisations across Co. Limerick in a variety of different sports.
“I have asked the Department to make sure that the application process for these grants is kept as simple as possible and that assistance and advice be made available from the Department to applicants. We want to make sure that the greatest number of clubs and organisations receive assistance from the Government so that they can invest in their local areas.”
“I know that given the amount of interest in the last two rounds of the scheme that this one is likely to receive a lot of attention and that there will probably be a large number of applicants. County Limerick has fared well in the last two rounds and I hope that we will be equally as successful this time.”
Clubs and Organisations who wish to avail of the programme must register by 5pm on Friday the 5th October and applications can be submitted from 9am on Friday the 7th September until 5pm on Friday 19th October, 2018.
