Over €370,000 for County Limerick Communities under the Town and Village Enhancement Scheme: O’Donovan

Nov 4, 2016

The Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan TD, has welcomed the allocation of over €370,000 to communities across Co. Limerick under the town and village enhancement scheme by Minister Heather Humphrey’s TD. The money is being allocated to Limerick City and County Council to carry out works in towns and villages across the County.

“This is a new scheme launched by Minister Humphrey’s in her role as Minister for Rural Development and is aimed at helping Local Authorities to carry out improvements to streets in towns and villages.”

“I recently discussed the need for town and village renewal with Minister Humphrey’s together with the need to work with Councils across the country in improving the basic infrastructure in towns and villages. This is very important for the residents and traders in these areas; and in my role as Minister for Tourism it is an issue that I am anxious to see prioritised and developed further.”

Patrick O’Donovan said that the allocations to the individual communities are; Abbeyfeale €21,250, Askeaton €47,175, Athea €22,950, Bruff €64,158, Cappamore €30,192, Newcastle West €49,300, Patrickswell €94,350 and Rathkeale €47,175.

He added that he hoped to see the scheme be developed further by the Minister in the time ahead as there are other communities which he knows Limerick City and County Council are anxious to prioritise as well, and he would work to ensure that the other parts of Limerick received investment like this.

“This is very good news for Co. Limerick’s towns and villages from the Government. We have worked to ensure that the Programme for Government has a strong emphasis on small towns and villages and this is the latest in a number of measures which we will take as a Government to ensure that these communities receive the investment needed to make the improvements which community groups and individuals want in their local areas.”
