O’Donovan welcomes progress on Foynes Flood Relief Scheme
Added December 9th, 2015
Fine Gael TD for Limerick Patrick O’Donovan has welcomed the confirmation that he has received this morning from the Minister for the Office of Public Works, Simon Harris TD that the OPW has informed Limerick City & County Council that it can proceed with the appointment of the contractor to the Foynes Flood Relief Scheme.
“I am delighted that Office of Public Works has now given approval for Limerick City and County Council to appoint a contractor to the project. This is evidence of the commitment that I received from the Minister previously of the OPW’s commitment to the flood relief scheme at Foynes and that the scheme is being progressed and is on track to be delivered.”
“I have worked very closely with Minister Simon Harris to ensure that the Foynes Flood Relief Scheme is prioritised. This has been looked for, for many years and the local community have been to the fore in pushing for the relief scheme, together with the Shannon Foynes Port Company who have already carried out some flood relief works in the area.”
“It is important to point out that as the Minister has stated, the funding is in place and the scheme is on track to be delivered within the original time frame.”

O’Donovan: “€728,000 allocated to Athea sewerage scheme”
Added November 18th, 2015
Limerick Fine Gael Patrick O’Donovan has welcomed the announcement from Irish Water that they have allocated €728,000 for the upgrade of the Athea sewerage scheme.
“Over the last number of months I have been working with Irish Water to get Athea prioritised. I recently secured a commitment from them to include the scheme in their capital programme, and this announcement that they have provided €728,000 to the scheme is a massive investment for the community of Athea.”
“Irish Water have informed me that they have awarded a contract for the design, procurement and management of all the project. This is important because I know from speaking to people in Athea that they were anxious to hear how much Irish Water were prepared to invest. Through a long process of discussions with them I was able to convince them to prioritise Athea and I am delighted that the scheme has now moved on to a very significant stage. The next stage of the process will be to complete the public consultation and to appoint a contractor to carry out the physical works.”
Patrick O’Donovan added “Since I first became a public representative in 2003, the issue of the sewerage scheme for Athea has been an issue which the people there have sought to be addressed. This is now being done, and as TD for the area who has worked to get this scheme prioritised I am delighted to receive this very important news that almost three quarters of a million euro will be spent in the village on this upgrade. This is good news for the people of Athea and I will continue to work closely with them to ensure the timely delivery of this scheme.”

O’Donovan: “Official opening of Rathkeale Enterprise Centre to provide new opportunity for community”
Added November 11th, 2015
Limerick Fine Gael TD Patrick O’Donovan has said that the official opening of the Rathkeale Enterprise Centre in the old Andersen Ireland plant next week will mark a major positive step forward and a new opportunity for Rathkeale and the surrounding areas.
“I am delighted that the Minister for Finance, Limerick’s Michael Noonan TD will officially open the facility on Monday. I know from the time that Andersen announced its closure that there was huge concern in the local area about the future of the plant. There was a strong wish from within the community that the facility would be kept for the creation of employment in Rathkeale. I was part of a group which was formed after the closure was announced which included the Rathkeale Community Council, Cllr. Stephen Keary, local man Brian McEnery and Michael Cantwell from Innovate Limerick who worked with the bank in question to secure the plant for the town.
“Working as a small united group with Limerick City and County Council we were able to guarantee that the plant would have a future in the creation of jobs in Rathkeale and also be given a strong community use in the town, I am thrilled that our work paid off and that the Minister for Finance is doing the honours in opening the new Rathkeale Enterprise Centre. The presence of the Minister for Finance will be a strong signal of how this Government values local enterprise in town like Rathkeale.”
“Recently I was able to work together with Cllr. Stephen Keary and with the Butterfly Club to secure €80,000 for the work that they are due to start in their new home in the old Andersen plant, and their presence, together with the jobs which are already in the Rathkeale Enterprise Centre, will mean that the facility will be in the heart of the local community long into the future. I am delighted to have played my role in this project and I am looking forward to a bright future for this facility for many years to come.”
